With a passion for creating intricate art on the nails of Hollywood's elite, Denise Bourne has turned her hobby into a career.

Currently residing in LA and originally from New York, Denise's love of the arts began from a young age.  Whether it was mixed-media printing, drawing or illustration, being creative was a constant and it ultimately led her to pursue and graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts.

Since then, Denise has continued to make people feel beautiful through her creations and her intricate nail art has been exhibited by celebrities like Michelle TrachtenbergBella Thorne, Kylie Jenner, and Lucy Hale.

Amuze.com caught up with the artist to discuss manicure styles, what inspires her to create, and the trick to keeping nails healthy and strong.

Tell us about how you got started in the manicuring business…
My mother is a hairdresser so I basically grew up in beauty salons. I always enjoyed watching the ladies sitting under those big ‘helmet’ hair dryers while having their manicures done. I noticed that they always had such beautiful long and elegant nails.  After years of working in numerous nail salons as a manicurist, my sister, who’s a stylist, asked me if I wanted to do the manicures for a photoshoot she was styling.  I graciously accepted, signed with The Rex Agency, and never looked back!

What inspired you to get into nail art as a full time career?
I encountered a woman with a tiny rose on her fingernail and I thought it was absolutely adorable because I have always loved all things miniature. When I asked her where she bought these mini nail stickers, she said the art was actually hand painted.  At that moment I was obsessed and knew I had to paint mini motifs on mine and everyone else’s nails.

What has been the most surreal moment for you in your career thus far?

The day I received an email from Stephanie Yaggy Lavery, Editor-In-Chief at Nailpro Magazine, who invited me to do a “Behind the Nail Pros” interview and a step-by-step photo story. The icing on the cake was having my image featured on the cover! A dream come true.

How would you describe your own personal manicure style?
I like to keep my nails natural, short, and clean.

What do you like to splurge on?
All types of art supplies from paint brushes and glitter to rhinestones and textured paper. I love incorporating all sorts of elements into my nail looks.

What inspires you to create a nail look?
I like to think outside of the box.  I want people to look at my nail art and say, “that’s the most innovative design I’ve ever seen on a nail.” I am inspired by life and everything it has to offer.

Who was your first celebrity client and how did you land him/her?
Michelle Trachtenberg (Gossip Girl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). I was introduced to Michelle by Stephen Kamifuji, the Creative Director at Genlux magazine.

Favorite fashion magazine or resource?

VOGUE. Always.

What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
Fisherman caps, denim with patches, and glittered everything!

Best fashion tip?
Don’t be afraid to take a chance, do something different, and start a trend.

Best tip to healthy nails?
Don’t cut cuticles, just gently push them back with a cuticle pusher or orange wood stick. And keep nails hydrated with oil.  Any kind will do, but coconut oil is my favorite.

Must-have beauty product?
Lipstick. You immediately feel confident with a bold lip.

What's the worst nail trend of all time?
My least favorite nail trend were the hairy nails seen on the Fall/Winter 2016 Libertine runway.

Do you have a secret make-up tip?
Root touch up mascara, it’s the best.

Do you have any hobbies?
Going to church, watching movies, and reading.

What are your favorite brands of polish and why?
I love Deborah Lippmann and Zoya because they are non-toxic. I also love Essie and OPI because they have the best colors and glitters. And I love Chanel’s color palette and polish texture.

Can you describe your style in three words?

Classic, cute, comfortable.

Who's your style icon?
Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

What's the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
Always do your best and be yourself. Don’t compare yourself or your talents to others. Follow your dreams and never give up.

Favorite Quote?
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” - Jesus.

What is one thing our readers would be surprised to hear?

Sometimes I go months without polish on my toes!

If you could paint the nails of one person, who would it be and why?
Justin Bieber, because I don’t think he’d be afraid to be the first male to get his nails painted with awesome nail art.  And I think he’d wear it with confidence.
