Alyssa Sutter began her styling career as part of an internship under the guidance of world–renowned celebrity stylist and fashionista, Rachel Zoe.

In 2015, just one year into her internship, Alyssa was hired full-time as Rachel's Styling Assistant and worked with celebs like Jennifer Garner, Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, and Sofia Vergara. Not long after, she became the Style Director and head of Rachel Zoe Studio.

In the spring of 2016, armed with a unique styling sensibility and the drive to make it in the competitive business, Alyssa left Rachel Zoe Inc. to pursue her own styling business, Alyssa Sutter Studio. Crafting the wardrobes of celebrities like Lucy Hale, Connie Britton, and Izabela Vidovic, Alyssa's creative visions have graced a slew of red carpets and best dressed lists alike.

Amuze caught up with the stellar stylist to talk all things fashion, how she creates an award-winning red carpet look, and why jewelry is her second passion.

Tell us about how you got started in the celebrity styling business...
I started in the celebrity styling business after interning and then working under celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe. I worked my way from an intern to her Style Director over the course of six years.

What inspired you to get into styling as a full time career?
As the head of Rachel Zoe’s styling department, I was inspired to pursue styling as a full time career. I gained so much experience and knowledge of the business that I knew I needed to branch off and pursue my dream solo.

How would you describe your own personal style?
My personal style is very reflective of how I’m feeling or what I’m currently interested in. I don’t fixate too much on trends or what is cool at the moment, I wear what makes me happy. For example, I recently found a beautiful 1940s black straw hat at an estate sale and wore it literally everyday on vacation and still do. The hat was so unique and instantly elevated my outfit. I needed to have it!

Who was your first celebrity client?
My first celebrity clients were Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) and Connie Britton (Nashville). I still work with both of them regularly.

But wait, there's more.. 😍

What do you like to splurge on?
I definitely splurge on accessories, especially shoes!

What inspires you to create a winning red carpet look?
Naturally being a creativity person, I constantly find myself being inspired by so many different elements. Inspiration can come from a piece of artwork, an article of clothing, or in most cases, a mood or feeling I want to bring to life. Honing in on my creative abilities is how I create a major red carpet look.

What has been the most surreal moment for you in your styling career thus far?
The most surreal moment would have to be when I was assisting Rachel Zoe and we dressed Anne Hathaway for the Academy Awards in 2011. Anne had about eight outfit changes from the red-carpet to the end of the show. Every piece was an incredible piece of art and I’m so grateful to have been a part of that experience.

What are some of your favorite brands and why?
I’m really into indie, emerging designers right now like Danse Lente handbags, Saks Potts, and Orseund Iris to name a few. I’m intrigued by brands that are producing something new and unexpected.

Favorite fashion magazine or resource?

As much as I love a hard copy of a fashion magazine, I actually find more resources and inspiration from Instagram. You can gain so much access to new brands and new trends.

What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
I am currently obsessing over kitten heel boots and baggy menswear trousers.

What was your first job?
My first job was in retail. It taught me a lot and I always find myself re-folding everything when I go shopping now!

Best fashion tip?
Don’t overthink it! Quality over quantity is always best. Stick with one trend instead of trying multiple at once.

Glossier Boy Brow and Blue Lizard sunscreen!

What's the worst fashion trend of all time?
UGGs with denim skirts is the worst fashion trend of ALL time.

Do you have a secret make-up tip?
I like to mix my foundation with a little moisturizer for a tinted, dewy look.

Do you have a hobby?
In addition to styling, I design jewelry for my fine jewelry line, Petit Moi.

What's your favorite piece of clothing in your closet?

My favorite piece in my closet has to be a blush silk dress from Aritzia. I’ve never owned anything that made me feel so elegant and sexy at the same time.

Can you describe your style in three words?
Polished, unpredictable, playful.

Who's your style icon?
Françoise Hardy

What's the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
Regardless of all the curve balls life will throw you, always keep looking forward.
